My Tasting Notes: I tried this tequila at Zocalo in Sacramento and tasted it in a
Riedel glass. This bottle has a unique design and comes with a wooden box. With a
golden amber brown color, this tequila has intense aromas of vanilla and floral. Other
aromas include moderate fruit and caramel with mild earth and spice. The tequila has
a heavy mouth feel and on the first sip is sweet and syrupy with a hint of bitterness.
Herradura Seleccion Suprema Anejo has numerous arrays of flavors due to its
numerous years of aging. However, I thought this tequila was somewhat
overpowering. Intense flavors of caramel, floral, and vanilla are followed by moderate-
to-intense agave. Moderate notes include earth and wood. With a long duration of
flavor, tastes of mild fruit and hints of spice bring this tequila to a numbing finish.
Info on the Back of the Bottle: n/a
Other Info: The date stamp on this bottle reads July 3, 2000.
In addition to the box and bottle, there is also a small scroll that contains the following
information:
“Picture yourself during the late autumn of 1981. Those were memorable days in the
Hacienda San Jose del Refugio, and the days when the “Hijuelos” of the Blue Agave
Tequilero were planted… the “Hijuelos” which had been selected by the jimadores of
the House of Herradura who during the following ten years would care for and ensure
the development and maturity of this Agave, a selection which would make history.
When the final drops fell marking the end of the season of rain of 1991, the Agave
which had been planted 10 years previously, moved on to the elaboration process.
Once the Agave was harvested and cooked, its select juices were processed by natural
fermentation and careful double distillation. They then started a slow and quiet period
of ageing in the finest imported oak barrels. Tequila Herradura Seleccion Suprema
rested peacefully in the fine white oak, caressed only by the gentle lights which filtered
through the old traditional windows. The magical surroundings, and the long balmy
days and moon-filled nights, resulted in the finest Tequila ever produced. Just as
Europe has its great showpieces of quality, Mexico has its Herradura Seleccion
Suprema. Tequila Herradura Seleccion Suprema, the maximum of the House of
Herradura.”
The neck tag for this bottle contains this inscription:
“Certificate of Authenticity
The Tequila in this bottle of Herradura Seleccion Suprema, was distilled under the
quality norms which have made the House of Herradura famous. Production takes
place in the Hacienda San Jose del Refugio only when the Blue Agave has reached its
10 years of optimal maturity.
The Tequila is then aged for several years in the finest imported oak barrels. Tequila
Herradura Seleccion Suprema is of a quality never before obtained by any other
producer. Just as Europe has its great showpieces of quality, Mexico has its Herradura
Seleccion Suprema.
Tequila Herradura Seleccion Suprema, the maximum of the House of Herradura.”
