My Tasting Notes: I tried this tequila, which cost me $38, at my home and tasted it
in a Riedel.  With a clear color, this tequila has intense floral aromas with moderate
earth, fruit, and spice.  Other aromas include mild hints smoke.  The tequila has a
thin-to-medium mouth feel and on the first sip has minimal sweetness with no
bitterness.  Intense flavors of agave and floral are followed by moderate notes of
earth with mild spice.  With a long duration of flavor, hints of fruit and smoke bring this
tequila to a numbing finish.

Info on the Back of the Bottle: "Don Felipe's Treasure - El Tesoro de Don Felipe
is the last of its kind.  This work of art is the only tequila still produced entirely in the
old traditional method: by hand.  Don Felipe personally walks his fields and selects
agave plants for their maturity and quality.  The harvested agave is slowly steamed in
brick ovens and crushed with a stone wheel.  It is then fermented in wood tanks and
distilled to exactly 80 proof so that water is never added to dilute the tequila.  Don
Felipe is very proud that the essence of the agave plant is maintained in his silver.  It is
a product that remains true to its source - verifying that the real test of a high quality
premium tequila is found in the taste of the unaged tequila.  No finer or smoother
tequila is produced elsewhere.  Estate grown, produced and bottled.  Bottled fresh
within 24 hours of distillation."

Other Info: "Estate Grown El Tesoro de Don Felipe is said to be produced by the old
traditional methods. 'Estate Grown' means that they harvest all agave for their Tequila
in their own fields. They still crush their agave in old stone crushing pits or 'tahonas'. El
Tesoro is very highly thought of in Tequila circles and should be, if nothing else
because it absolutely has the most traditional process in the industry. Very strong in
agave flavor and very enjoyable.

NOTE: Robert Denton & Company, Ltd. continued to be listed as the importer on
bottles these older bottles of El Tesoro de Don Felipe as well as Chinaco but Mr.
Denton actually sold his interest in these products a few years back. The brand of El
Tesoro is now owned and controlled by industry giant, Jim Beam Brands Worldwide,
which is a subsidiary of the even larger company of Fortune Brands, Inc.

At the present time (06/05/2004) it's not uncommon to find these older versions of El
Tesoro de Don Felipe but the new bottles are taken hold fast. If you're a particular fan
of El Tesoro "Silver" I'd recommend stocking up. The new El Tesoro Blanco is named
"Platinum" and covered on the next page. Despite what some might tell you there are
some obvious differences in the two products." -
