My Tasting Notes: I tried this tequila at Zocalo, for $9, in a Riedel glass. For $9 this
tequila is an absolute steal. The tequila is clear in color and has an intense floral,
earth, and fruit aromas. Once you get past the intensity of the nose, you can smell
mild notes of spice with a hint of smoke. On the tip of the tongue the tequila is mellow
and soft but yet has a oily mouth feel. While the tequila has minimal bitterness, it is
actually sweet. Now onto flavor. The flavor has intense agave and earth attributes
which are followed by moderate fruit and floral. On a lighter note, this tequila has mild
wood with a small hint of smoke. The tequilas finish is a medium-to-long duration of
flavor followed by a numbing alcohol feeling.
Info on the Back of the Bottle: "La Gonzalena distillery was built by Lic.
Guillermo Gonzalez, the great grandson of Mexico's president, General Manuel
Gonzalez. This tiny distillery stopped producing tequila in the early 1980's and only
reopened again in 1993, under the new direction of the four sons of Lic. Gonzalez.
Chinaco tequila was named after the infamous and heroic fighting Chinacos who were
the untiring defenders of Mexico during the Guerra de Reforma (War of Reform) in the
1850's and the French Intervention in 1863. The tequila was named Chinaco to
represent the distillery's constant fight for survival against the large tequila producers.
According to Mexican law, Blanco is tequila that is unaged. That means that the tequila
in this bottle was never placed in wooden tanks or barrels. Chinaco Blanco is bottled
absolutely fresh.
Chinaco Blanco's taste is clean and fresh without the influence of wood aging.
Chinaco's legendary flavor is demanded by tequila aficionados around the world
because it is truly tequila excepcional."
Other Info: The Neck tag on the Chinaco bottle reads, "CHINACO 100% AGAVE
TEQUILA RETURNS - For many years Chinaco 100% agave tequila defied rivalry. Then
the tiny La Gonzalena distillery stunned generations of discerning drinkers and
stopped producing. Now, after a short absence, the revered name returns.
Today, the tequila that leaves La Gonzalena is only a mere trickle compared to the
production of the giant tequila factories. But every drop of Chinaco produced under
the direction of the four sons of Guillermo Gonzales is meticulously crafted and lives up
to its legendary heritage of excellence.
Chinaco Blanco, the taste is clean and fresh without the influence of wood aging. This
legendary flavor is demanded by true tequila drinkers around the world."
