Tequila Joe's Collection
Arette Unique Añejo - Old Bottle
My Tasting Notes: I opened my first bottle of Unique at my home and tasted it in a
Riedel glass.  While this bottle has a normal design, it is the tequilas quality versus
price that makes this great.  In the quality versus price section of the rating sheet this
tequila received the most points possible.  In my opinion, this tequila is worth far more
than what I paid for a bottle (typical price range is $40-60).  With a golden amber
brown color, this tequila has intense aromas of floral, vanilla, and caramel.  Other
aromas include moderate fruit and spice with a mild earth.  The tequila has a heavy
almost syrupy mouth feel and on the first sip is very sweet with a hint of bitterness.
Arette Unique Anejo has numerous arrays of flavors due to its 6 years of aging.
Intense flavors of caramel, agave, fruit, and floral are followed by moderate notes of
earth, wood, and vanilla.  With a very long duration of flavor, tastes of mild spice with a
hint of chemicals bring this tequila to a numbing finish.

Other Info: I sought after this bottle for quite some time and finally got my first
bottle but I could not hold back from drinking it.  As many of you already know, I am a
huge fan of anything with the 1109 NOM and this tequila is one of the reasons.  The
bottle pictured here is my third bottle of Unique I have purchased.  This is the older
bottling which features the "Anejo" designation on the bottle and is 350ml as opposed
to the new bottle which is 375ml and labeled "Extra Anejo".  In my opinion, the first
edition bottle seems to taste better then the newer bottle but I cannot tell you why.
As far as I know, they are the same process as before.  Either bottle, new or old, is a
must have for both collectors and drinkers alike.

Here is some more info about the distillery:  “This small distillery produces Arette, El
Reformador, and El Gran Viejo.  Clean and well organized, the plant uses “moledor”
cement fermenting tanks, and stainless steel stills.  In an impressive warehouse, loads
of barrels are stacked impossibly high.  The autoclaves used to roast the agaves
release steam into the area creating delicious aromas you are not likely to forget.” –
