My Tasting Notes: I tried this tequila, which cost me $9, at Zocalo and tasted it in a
snifter.  With a clear color, this tequila has intense aromas of floral, earth, and spice.
Other aromas include moderate fruit with mild smoke.  The tequila has a thin mouth
feel and on the first sip is sweet with a hint of bitterness.  Intense flavors of earth and
agave are followed by moderate notes of fruit and floral.  With a long duration of
flavor, tastes of mild spice, smoke, and wood bring this tequila to a numbing finish.

For those who do not already know, 7 Leguas is the original Patron.  When Patron first
started it was produced by the 1120 NOM.  Early bottles of Patron actually had the 7
Leguas horse on the bottle and later bottles showed the Patron bee but continued to
show the 1120 NOM.  Unfortunately, as Patron got a larger demand they eventually
left 7 Leguas and moved to their current distillery and new NOM number.

The
7 Leguas story is told on their website.  Here is an excerpt from the website:
"Based in Atotonilco el Alto in Jalisco, Mexico, Casa 7 Leguas counts more than 50
years’ experience in the making of tequila by means of traditional processes.  Our
company’s most outstanding achievements are our full-bodied, high quality spirits of
refined flavor.

A central character in revolutionary days was Pancho Villa, who, riding his horse Seven
Leagues (7 Leguas) swept a great expanse of the Mexican land.  Though Villa had a lot
of detractors, he also had his share of followers.  One of the General’s greatest
admirers was Don Ignacio Gonzalez Vargas, a proud, enterprising Mexican, who in a
show of affection for the Centaur of the North, named his own tequila after Pancho Villa’
s favorite horse.  Thus, Tequila 7 Leguas was born."
